Project Leader/Principal•Principal Investors & Private Equity (PIPE) (Boston Consulting Group, Inc.•Los Angeles, California): Manage the design and development of long-term business strategies for private equity and investment institutions in order to achieve superior efficiency, revenue growth, and organizational capability.
Specific duties include:
perform sophisticated market research, benchmarking, market sizing, modeling, forecasting, customer decision analysis, and investment analysis to identify growth opportunities; deliver due diligence and portfolio company value creation projects for leading private equity clients; lead the day-to-day execution of buy and sell side due diligences for private equity clients and ensure successful delivery of client requirements within the scope of the engagement; provide intellectual leadership for the project teams by generating key ideas and conceptual frameworks to guide research and analysis across all relevant scope modules (market growth, competitor landscape, customer perspective, and value creation); lead client presentations and readouts with private equity funds and prepare them for their investment committee meetings; manage case team responsibilities including personnel assignments, research and analysis, and reports to clients; undertake critical evaluation of analytical work performed using advanced economic and financial analysis techniques; oversee and direct consultants and junior professional staff, and oversee business development and preparation of outputs; and present findings to senior client management, and oversee business development and client relationships.
Requires:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent, including a 3-year or 4-year degree) and three (3) years of experience as a management consultant or business analyst, which must include at least one (1) year of experience providing business and technology strategy recommendations to private equity and investment institutions. Must also possess the following (quantitative experience requirements not applicable to this section): analyzing public market dynamics, equity stories, and fragmented industry structures using limited data and disclosures; interpreting and challenging equity research, SEC filings (10-K/Qs, proxy statements), and shareholder communications to extract strategic insights; building and auditing commercial cases, business plans, and investment theses with advanced market sizing (TAM/SAM), share estimation, and triangulation techniques; synthesizing primary and secondary research—including expert interviews, analyst reports, and third-party databases—to validate investor hypotheses and pressure-test financial assumptions; presenting and communicating risks, upside scenarios, and strategic implications to senior stakeholders, including PE partners, investment committees, and C-suite executives; leading and managing high-pressure, time-sensitive projects with structured workstream segmentation, cross-functional coordination, and hypothesis-driven analysis; applying advanced economic and financial analysis theories including competitive cost and decision analysis, capabilities assessment, portfolio review based on financial reports, and experience and scale curve analysis; conducting advanced analysis of scale economies, seasonal effects on financial forecasts, impact of uncertainties on business outcomes, corporate financing policies, and evaluation of factors that influence a company's debt capacity; and managing individuals, teams and processes. Partial telecommute benefit available. Must report to and reside within commutable distance of the listed BCG office. Domestic/international travel required (up to 80%) based on client/company need.
Salary range:
